The presentation of the documentary Megastructures: the Bernabéu of the 21st Century, in which Real Madrid, Disney and National Geographic collaborated, took place in the press room of the Santiago Bernabéu. Florentino Pérez attended the event alongside the CEO of The Walt Disney Company Spain and Portugal, Simon Amselem; the director of the documentary, Josep Serra Mateu; and the executive producer of National Geographic, Iván Bouso.
The Real Madrid president spoke first: "The Bernabéu represents emotion. This is a place where people come together and connect with each other, united by the universal spirit of madridismo. Dreams that may seem impossible come true here. Five years of hard work and we have had to overcome very adverse situations, such as the pandemic or the war in Ukraine and its consequences".
A dream for madridismo
"This dream of madridismo is now a reality, and this documentary by National Geographic that is being released to the world today tells the story of that dream and also the story of a commitment. The commitment to continue working to ensure that this club, which was deemed by FIFA to be the best club of the 20th century, is also recognised as the best club of the 21st century".
"We believe that this transformation of the Bernabéu, which is one of the most spectacular constructions in the world in recent years, should be told by an organisation of the global standing of National Geographic. It is a story filled with intense emotions and the hard work and professionalism of thousands of workers who made it possible, and to whom I am always grateful for their dedication to achieve something that seemed impossible".
Thanks
"I would also like to thank the professionals from National Geographic and the Disney Company, who have handled this documentary with special warmth, sharing the special experiences that have taken place in this stadium over the years".
"The Bernabéu is a place of prestige and pride for Real Madrid, for the city of Madrid and for the Spanish brand. One of the world's major temples of football, ready to experience new dreams and new emotions".
Amselem: "Disney, National Geographic and Real Madrid are world leaders"
The Walt Disney Company Spain and Portugal CEO said: "Thank you for opening up your home to us to undertake your biggest project, which is the Bernabéu. Disney, National Geographic and Real Madrid are world leaders in their respective sectors. This documentary captures the magnitude and the avant-garde of the project in all its aspects and also recounts the challenges that this project has had to overcome".
Serra: "Making this project come to life in the centre of Madrid has been a major challenge"
The director of the documentary Megastructures: the Bernabéu of the 21st Century explained: "The viewers will be surprised by the innovative and huge underground complex, which is not visible to everyone. Making this project come to life in the centre of Madrid has been a major challenge. The story of the Bernabéu of the 21st Century needed to be shared with everyone".
Bouso: "This is one of the world's great stories"
Finally, the executive producer of National Geographic said: "We have always been excited to tell some of the world's great stories, and this is one of them. It has been one of the most special ones. It has become one of the most imposing structures not only in Europe, but in the world".
